Set off on an 11-day adventure designed exclusively for women and limited to just 4–10 travelers. Beginning in Malawi, you’ll venture first into the Shire Highlands - an area of Malawi that feels like it's above the clouds. Next you will head into Liwonde National Park for a full safari immersion - tracking elephants, rhinos, and lions on jeep drives and gliding along the river by boat amid hippo-studded riverbanks. Your journey in Malawi wouldn't be complete without the crystal-clear waters of Lake Malawi where you will get to witness life in a fishing village and relax on the sandy lake shore. Your journey culminates in Zambia’s legendary South Luangwa, where morning and night game drives bring you face-to-face with lions, leopards, Cape buffalos, wild dogs and the Thornicroft giraffe.

You'll experience breathtaking landscapes, immerse yourself in the rich cultures and histories of TWO countries, get uninterrupted views of wildlife in their natural habitats, savior authentic cuisines, participate in meaningful community activities and create connections that will last a lifetime.

Welcome to the Warm Heart of Africa!

Monday - April 27th

Arrive at Blantyre’s Chileka International Airport where you will be greeted by your trip host, Amy and your local guide, Inno. Upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel in Zomba; the former capital of British Central Africa and Nyasaland.

Located atop the plateau, our first night in Malawi will be spent above the clouds at the Ku Chawe Inn. The Inn offers us a chance to relax and soak in the wonders of this unique destination. Surrounded by a gorgeous landscape and terraced gardens, your room will have panoramic views from Lake Chilwa and the Shire Highlands to Mount Mulanje and beyond.

After settling in and enjoying lunch, you can choose to relax by the pool or venture out with the mountain guide for a 1-hour hike to nearby waterfall.

Community Experience and Transfer to Liwonde National Park

Tuesday - April 28th

Soon after Breakfast, we will check out of the hotel and our driver will take us to YODEP; a community-based organization working towards improving the lives of youth by instituting various projects to deal with famine, literacy issues, climate change, women empowerment and cultural preservation. The project leaders will welcome us, brief us about what they do, and give us a chance to interact with the local community.

After this experience, we will head out to Liwonde National Park - arriving at Mvuu Camp late afternoon. It is a scenic drive through the countryside, skirting mountains, towns, and villages.

After checking-in and getting settled, you can take a dip in the swimming pool, rest up on the front porch of your canvas cottage, or relax in the riverside lounge while being serenaded by hippos and songbird. In the early evening, we will enjoy our first game drive stopping on the riverbank for sundowners. Once we experience the breathtaking African sunset over the Shire River, we will go into the night safari to look for some nocturnal wildlife.

Regular sightings at Mvuu include black rhino, sable, cheetah, buffalo and lion as well as impala, kudu, waterbuck and elephants.

Liwonde National Park

Wednesday - April 29th

We will wake up early for breakfast before embarking on a thrilling boat safari along the Shire River, where you will have the chance to observe the park's impressive populations of hippos and crocodiles in their natural habitat. After this exciting adventure, the group will return to the lodge for a relaxing lunch and some free time before our evening safari.

Optional activities include:

– Lounging by the swimming pool

– Non-stop birding

– Trip to Njobvu Cultural Village Lodge and Nanthomba School

In the late afternoon, the group will set out on a captivating game drive through the park as the sun sets. Sundowners will be enjoyed along the Shire River and then our search for the nocturnal wildlife will begin. You will return to the lodge for a delicious dinner under the night sky.

Transfer to Lake Malawi

Thursday - April 30th

After our hearty breakfast at Mvuu Camp, we will head out early by boat to get one last view of the park's wildlife along the shores of the Shire River. We will then travel by road to Cape Maclear where we will spend the next two nights. The journey will take us through scenic landscapes and local villages, offering glimpses into the authentic Malawian way of life.

Upon arrival, you will be able to take some time to unwind and relax in the tranquil atmosphere of Lake Malawi. As the day draws to a close, the group will set sail on a sunset cruise immersing ourselves in the serene charm of Lake Malawi's evening glow. We will catch glimpses of Fish Eagles diving for their meals, see the local fishermen head out for their evening fishing, and bask in the golden horizon as the sun sets.

Chembe Village Tour

Friday - May 1st

Today is a special day! After enjoying your breakfast in Cape Maclear, we will partake in a village tour where the group will explore the vibrant community of Chembe Village, learning about traditions, schools, and jobs. You will get an authentic look into the daily lives of people living and working by the shores of Lake Malawi.

After our village tour, we will enjoy a scenic boat transfer to the west side of Nankumba Peninsula on the Southern end of Lake Malawi. We will spend our next two nights nestled in the lush hills and craggy outcrops surrounding the lake.

You can relax on the sandy beach or enjoy an elevated view of the lake while lounging at the infinity pool. If you are seeking action, you can participate in waterskiing, sailing, kayaking, hiking, snorkeling, or diving. The underwater activities never fail to amaze as the diversity of fish life in Lake Malawi is home to more native fish species than any other part of the world.

Tranquility on Lake Malawi

Saturday - May 2nd

Today is a chance to fully enjoy the tranquility of Pumulani Lodge by doing what makes your heart happy. You may choose to relax by the infinity pool, unwind on the beach, or take in the panoramic lake views from your villa. You may choose to be more active by participating in water activities (kayaking, paddleboarding, waterskiing, snorkeling, etc.) or exploring the views on an afternoon hike.

As the day draws to a close, embark on a serene sunset cruise aboard Pumulani's traditional 12-meter wooden dhow. The group will drift across the calm waters as the sky transforms into a canvas of deep oranges and magnificent purples, offering a breathtaking backdrop to our journey.

Travel to Lilongwe

Sunday - May 3rd

Once we have enjoyed an early breakfast, we’ll depart for Lilongwe in preparation for our journey to South Luangwa the following day.

To break up the drive, we’ll stop at one of Central Malawi’s hidden gems—Mua Mission. Known for its rich cultural heritage, Mua Mission features an impressive museum and exquisite woodcarvings, making it the perfect place to purchase authentic Malawian souvenirs. The Chamare Museum showcases the traditions of three major tribal groups: the Chewa, Ngoni, and Yao. After visit Mua Mission, we will stop for lunch before carrying on to Lilongwe.

In Lilongwe, we’ll stay within a 650-hectare forest reserve and dairy farm, offering a tranquil retreat. The lodge features a lush garden, an outdoor pool, and an onsite restaurant serving fine cuisine, including homegrown vegetables and fresh dairy products. You can unwind with a drink at the well-stocked bar or explore the surrounding area before the group enjoys a delicious dinner together.

Journey into Zambia

Monday - May 4th

After breakfast, we’ll depart Lilongwe for a road transfer to South Luangwa National Park entering through the Mchinji Border.* Along the way, we will enjoy views of rural landscapes, local villages, and the changing scenery as you approach the Luangwa Valley.

We will be joyfully greeted upon arrival at the Msandile River Lodge. You will have time to settle in and relax before heading out on our first safari experience in South Luangwa National Park, known as The Valley of Leopards.

Surrounded by untouched wilderness, Msandile River Lodge is the perfect blend of luxury and sustainability. Each room overlooks the river, offering excellent hippo and crocodile viewing throughout the day, as well as a chance to witness elephants crossing in and out of the park at sunrise and sunset.

This world-renowned safari destination is home to over 60 mammal species and more than 400 bird species.

Full Day in South Luangwa National Park

Tuesday May 5th

Today is a day full of safari experiences, mouthwatering meals, and relaxing free time.

We will kick off the day with a morning game drive through the rich landscapes of Luangwa National Park, where you'll have the chance to spot a variety of wildlife in the early hours of the day. This part of Zambia is known for its abundant wildlife, including big game animals and unique species. While exploring we will have chances to see elephants, lions, leopards, Cape buffalo, hippos, giraffe, antelope, wildebeest, zebra, African wild dogs, and spotted hyenas.

We will return to the lodge for breakfast and a bit of relaxation, before setting out again for an evening game drive.

Another Day, Another Safari!

Wednesday - May 6th

One last day to explore the wildlife and soak in the rich landscapes of Zambia.

We will enjoy our breakfast and a morning game drive where you will have another chance at spotting real life scenes from "The Lion King."

You will have lunch and free time before we set out on one last safari adventure.

Our dinner will be a "farewell" dinner, where we reflect on all the epic memories made and cherish the newly formed friendships we are going home with.

It's Not Goodbye - It's See Ya Later!

Thursday - May 7th

After breakfast, you will be transferred by road to Mfuwe Airport. The drive passes through rural villages and scenic landscapes so you can enjoy your final glimpses of Zambia's countryside.

Here, we will say our "see ya laters" and you can move onward with your journey to home, another adventure, or the add-on experience to Victora Falls.

Add 3 nights onto your stay to experience Victoria Falls, sunset cruise down the Zambezi River, and an additional safari game drive.

Follow the steps in our booking checklist to sign our contract and pay to secure your spot. The payment happens on Step 2 of the process. You can review Step 2 before signing the travel contract. We just ask that you read and sign the contract before making any payments.

Trip price is based on double occupancy rooms. Roommates will be assigned closer to the trip date. You will have a chance to “virtually” meet the other travelers on our Malawi/Zambia Facebook group page and through a meet and greet zoom call before the trip. If you prefer to upgrade to a private room, you will need to make this request as soon as possible. Private rooms are subject to additional cost of $650 and are on a first come first served basis.

The basic requirement is that you are a woman 21 years old or older. There is not a max age, but travelers need to be able to be physically active and able to ride in the car for a few hours at a time. There will be a couple of days that we have long drives, as we are trying to see as much of two countries as we can on this trip. You will also be in a vehicle during the game drives and a boat on the sunset cruise and the boat safari. Some of the more physical activities will include hiking, walking, and swimming.
