Welcome to the Warm Heart of Africa

April 19th, 2027

Arrive at Blantyre’s Chileka International Airport where you will be greeted by your trip host, Amy and your local guide, Inno. Upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel in Zomba; the former capital of British Central Africa and Nyasaland.

Located atop the plateau, our first night in Malawi will be spent above the clouds at the Ku Chawe Inn. The Inn offers us a chance to relax and soak in the wonders of this unique destination. Surrounded by a gorgeous landscape and terraced gardens, your room will have panoramic views from Lake Chilwa and the Shire Highlands to Mount Mulanje and beyond.

After settling in, you can choose to relax by the pool or venture out with the mountain guide for a 1-hour hike to nearby waterfall.

Community Experience and Transfer to Liwonde National Park

April 20th, 2027

Soon after Breakfast, we will check out of the hotel and visit YODEP; a community-based organization working towards improving the lives of youth by instituting various projects to deal with famine, literacy issues, climate change, women empowerment and cultural preservation. The project leaders will welcome us, brief us about what they do, and give us a chance to interact with the local community.

After this experience, we will head out to Liwonde National Park arriving at Mvuu Camp late afternoon. It is a scenic drive through the countryside, skirting mountains, towns, and villages.

After checking in and getting settled, you can take a dip in the swimming pool, rest up on the front porch of your canvas cottage, or relax in the riverside lounge while being serenaded by hippos and songbird.

In the early evening, we will enjoy our first game drive stopping on the riverbank for sundowners. After experiencing the breathtaking African sunset over the Shire River, we will go into the night safari to look for some nocturnal wildlife.

Regular sightings at Mvuu include black rhino, sable, cheetah, buffalo and lion as well as impala, kudu, waterbuck and elephants.

Sunrise to Starlight Safari Adventures

April 21st, 2027

Your day begins with a 5:00 AM wake‑up call, paired with hot coffee and biscuits as the first light spreads across the bush. This is one of the most magical times in the wild—witnessing the wilderness waking up: elephants on the move, impalas grazing in the cool air, predators returning from a night of hunting, and birds filling the sky with color and sound. A warm cup of coffee or tea in hand makes the experience even sweeter.

After the excitement of the morning drive, you’ll return to the lodge for a full breakfast and some free time before lunch. This is your chance to slow down and enjoy camp life:

Lounge by the pool with a book or a nap
Watch wildlife wander through the area around camp
Immerse yourself in birding—this region is a paradise for it

As the afternoon cools, the group sets out again for an evening game drive, when animals shift into their second rhythm of the day. You’ll watch the landscape glow gold as the sun sets, then enjoy sundowners along the Shire River—a perfect moment of stillness and beauty.

Once darkness settles, the bush transforms. Your guides will begin searching for nocturnal wildlife, from prowling predators to glowing eyes in the brush. The night drive offers a completely different perspective of the park’s energy and movement.

You’ll return to the lodge for a delicious dinner under the stars, sharing stories from a day filled with adventure, discovery, and the magic of the African wilderness.

Transfer to Lake Malawi

April 22nd, 2027

After another early morning game drive a hearty breakfast at Mvuu Camp, we will head out by boat to get one last view of the park's wildlife along the shores of the Shire River.

We will then travel by road to Lake Malawi where we will spend the next three nights. The journey will take us through scenic landscapes and local villages, offering glimpses into the authentic Malawian way of life. Our first stop will be to Cape Maclear, a fishing village along the lake.

Upon arrival, you will be able to take some time to unwind and relax in the tranquil atmosphere of Lake Malawi. As the day draws to a close, the group will set sail on a sunset cruise immersing ourselves in the serene charm of Lake Malawi's evening glow. We will catch glimpses of Fish Eagles diving for their meals, see the local fishermen head out for their evening fishing, and bask in the golden horizon as the sun sets.

Chembe Village Tour

April 23rd, 2027

Today is a special day! After enjoying your breakfast in Cape Maclear, we will partake in a village tour where the group will explore the vibrant community of Chembe Village, learning about traditions, education, and jobs. You will get an authentic look into the daily lives of people living and working by the shores of Lake Malawi.

After our village tour, we will enjoy a scenic boat transfer to the west side of Nankumba Peninsula on the Southern end of Lake Malawi. We will spend our next two nights nestled in the lush hills and craggy outcrops surrounding the lake.

We will enjoy lunch upon arrival and then you will have free time to relax on the sandy beach or enjoy an elevated view of the lake while lounging at the infinity pool. If you are seeking action, you can participate in waterskiing, sailing, kayaking, hiking, snorkeling, or diving. The underwater activities never fail to amaze as the diversity of fish life in Lake Malawi is home to more native fish species than any other part of the world.

Our night ends with a delicious dinner as we watch Lake Malawi transform into the Lake of Stars.

Tranquility on Lake Malawi

April 24th, 2027

Today is a chance to fully enjoy the tranquility of Pumulani by doing what makes your heart happy. You may choose to relax by the infinity pool, unwind on the beach, or take in the panoramic lake views from your villa. You may choose to be more active by participating in water activities (kayaking, paddleboarding, waterskiing, snorkeling, etc.) or exploring the views on an afternoon hike.

As the day draws to a close, embark on a serene sunset cruise aboard Pumulani's traditional 12-meter wooden dhow. The group will drift across the calm waters as the sky transforms into a canvas of deep oranges and magnificent purples, offering a breathtaking backdrop to our journey.

Transfer to Lilongwe

April 25th, 2027

After an early breakfast, we’ll depart for Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi.

To break up the drive, we’ll stop at one of Central Malawi’s hidden gems—Mua Mission. Known for its rich cultural heritage, Mua Mission features an impressive museum and exquisite woodcarvings, making it the perfect place to purchase authentic Malawian souvenirs. The Chamare Museum showcases the traditions of three major tribal groups: the Chewa, Ngoni, and Yao. Here we will learn all about the history and traditions of these tribes.

After visit Mua Mission, we will stop for a workshop tour and lunch at Dedza Pottery before carrying on to Lilongwe. Here you will learn about their pottery making process and have the chance to purchase some one of the kind items (so leave some room in your suitcase).

In Lilongwe, we’ll stay within a 650-hectare forest reserve and dairy farm, offering a tranquil retreat. The lodge features a lush garden, an outdoor pool, and an onsite restaurant serving fine cuisine, including homegrown vegetables and fresh dairy products. You can unwind with a drink at the well-stocked bar before the group enjoys dinner together.

Cultural Immersion in Lilongwe

April 26th, 2027

Today invites you to experience Malawi’s capital through culture, community, and connection—balanced with plenty of time to rest and enjoy the peaceful charm of Kumbali Lodge.

Your morning begins slowly, with time to relax, wander the lodge grounds, or simply savor a quiet breakfast surrounded by nature. Kumbali’s property is a retreat in itself: leafy paths, open lawns, and gentle breezes that make it easy to unwind before the day’s adventures.

Late morning, you’ll head into Lilongwe for a taste of everyday Malawian life. You’ll explore a local market, where vibrant fabrics, handmade crafts, and fresh produce fill the stalls with color and energy. A stop at a nearby grocery store offers a fun peek into local snacks, spices, and daily essentials—always a favorite for travelers who love discovering the small details of a culture. Also, a perfect place to stock up on Malawi Gin and local hot sauce before heading home.

In the afternoon, the group will visit the Bhubesi Pride Foundation, an inspiring organization using sport, education, and community programs to empower youth across Malawi. You’ll learn about their work, meet the team, and see firsthand how their initiatives are creating opportunities and building confidence for young people in the region.

After returning to Kumbali, we will enjoy a meal together before heading back into the heart of the city for a lively and unforgettable experience at a local nightclub or bar. Here you will have a chance to enjoy music, dance, and experience the warm, welcoming spirit that Malawians are known for. It’s the perfect way to end a day filled with culture, connection, and community.

Arrival in Zambia

April 27th, 2027

After breakfast, we’ll depart Lilongwe for a road transfer to South Luangwa National Park entering through the Mchinji Border. Along the way, we will enjoy views of rural landscapes, local villages, and the changing scenery as you approach the Luangwa Valley.

We will be joyfully greeted upon arrival at the Msandile River Lodge. You will have time to settle in and relax before heading out on our first safari experience in South Luangwa National Park, known as The Valley of Leopards.

Surrounded by untouched wilderness, Msandile River Lodge is the perfect blend of luxury and sustainability. The lodge overlooks the river, offering excellent hippo and crocodile viewing throughout the day, as well as a chance to witness elephants crossing in and out of the park at sunrise and sunset.

This world-renowned safari destination is home to over 60 mammal species and more than 400 bird species.

A Full Day of South Luangwa Wonders

April 28th, 2027

An early morning wakeup to the soft rustle of the bush and a stunning sunrise over the river—a gentle, almost surreal reminder that you’re in one of Africa’s most extraordinary ecosystems.

Your adventure begins with a morning game drive, when South Luangwa reveals its own unique rhythm. The early light sharpens every detail: giraffes stretching into the sunrise, herds moving toward the river, and the unmistakable silhouettes of big cats returning to cover after a night on the move. The group will stop to enjoy a quick morning coffee and biscuits while observing wildlife drifting quietly through the landscape. This park is known for its remarkable density of wildlife, and each turn offers something new to discover.

After the drive, you’ll stop at Tribal Textiles, a vibrant creative hub where artisans transform local stories and natural patterns into hand‑painted fabrics. It’s a beautiful opportunity to shop, support local makers, and bring home pieces that carry the spirit of Zambia.

Back at the lodge, a delicious breakfast awaits, followed by a long stretch of midday freedom. This is your time to unwind exactly as you choose:

We will end our day of safari with a night drive, where you will be on the lookout for creatures with glowing eyes, predators beginning their patrols, and the sounds of the night rising around you.

You’ll return to the lodge for dinner beneath a sky so clear and star‑filled it feels almost unreal.

One Last Full Day in the Wild

April 29th, 2027

Your final full day in Zambia begins quietly, with yogurt, fresh fruit, coffee, and tea available before we head out—a light and easy start as the valley slowly brightens around us. There’s a special feeling to this morning, knowing it’s our last chance to soak in the atmosphere of South Luangwa.

We’ll set off on a morning game drive, giving you another opportunity to witness the park’s incredible wildlife in its natural rhythm. No two drives are ever alike here, and today offers its own mix of surprises, movement, and moments you’ll carry home with you.

Upon returning to the lodge, we’ll enjoy a full breakfast, followed by lunch and a stretch of unhurried free time. Whether you choose to sit by the river, wander the grounds, or simply savor the peacefulness of the afternoon, this time is yours to enjoy before the day’s final adventure.

As the sun begins to lower, we’ll head out for one last safari, a beautiful closing chapter to your time in Zambia. The shifting light, the evening breeze, and the anticipation of what we might see create a sense of magic unique to this final drive.

Tonight’s farewell dinner brings everyone together to celebrate the journey we’ve shared—stories told around the table, laughter echoing through the night, and the warm realization that the friendships formed here are part of what makes this trip unforgettable.

After breakfast, we’ll begin our road transfer to Mfuwe Airport, taking in the final moments of Zambia’s beautiful landscapes inside South Luangwa. This isn’t just a travel day—our drive offers one last opportunity for the wildlife to make appearances as we say goodbye to this stunning area.

Once we arrive at the airport, we’ll share our heartfelt “see‑you‑laters” before you continue your journey—whether that’s homeward bound or onward to your next adventure.

Follow the steps in our booking checklist to sign our contract, pay, and book your trip!

Trip price is based on double occupancy rooms. Roommates will be assigned closer to the trip date. You will have a chance to “virtually” meet the other travelers on our Malawi/Zambia Facebook group page and through a meet and greet zoom call before the trip. If you prefer to upgrade to a private room, you will need to make this request as soon as possible. Private rooms are subject to additional cost of $650 and are on a first come first served basis.

The basic requirement is that you are a woman 21 years old or older. There is not a max age, but travelers need to be able to be physically active and able to ride in the car for a few hours at a time. There will be a couple of days that we have long drives, as we are trying to see as much of two countries as we can on this trip. You will also be in a vehicle during the game drives (which get bumpy) and a boat on the sunset cruise and the boat safari. We will do a good bit of walking.

More importantly, this trip is right for you if you are looking for a trip that is meaningful, unique, educational, exciting, and adventurous.
